WHO ARE WE

45 Years Old History

SUBANA was founded in 1970 with a view to producing quality biscuits as a product of substitution for the local market. The brand name “SU-BA-NA” is derived from three names; SUkai, BAichoo and NAndlall. The first biscuits were made in the month of August 1971 and the marketing began as from the beginning of November 1971 with a modest production capacity of 1 ton per day.  With automation and machines from the UK, Italy and Austria a daily production of more than 15 tons of different varieties of biscuit was possible.

"Our island has missed its  favorite biscuits for the last 3 years. Our responsibility has been to restore SUBANA  as fast as possible by outsourcing our production, by assuring the best ingredients and quality. Nevertheless local production will start soon"

A dream becoming reality 

Mr. Anouj Takoordyal was born in 1963 in the village of Camp de Masque, Mauritius.  His father passed away when he was at the mere age of 7 yrs old.  His mother had to work very hard to bring up the 10 kids of the family.   The hardship continued when at the age of 17, he had to discontinue his education to pursue his first job as a helper at SUBANA biscuit with a meagre daily wage of Rs2.40.  With hard work and a lot of effort, within 6 months, he was promoted to salesperson.  He left the company in the early 1990’s to join several other leading distribution companies before starting his own business in the early 2000’s.
He founded Freelance Distributors in 2002, which proved to be one of the fast emerging firms in the FMCG industry in Mauritius.  Having a reputation and credibility for providing quality products and services, Freelance Distributors has attained enormous sales growth since.  Determination and experience allowed the company to market brands such as Royalty, Lacnor and Britannia from UK, UAE and India respectively.  Other brands owned by Freelance Distributors are Dunar, Bullet Energy Drink, Golden Country, Nature Shine, Maudisik, Maudisel, and others…With a fleet of 15 vehicles, the company counts more than 40 dedicated employees readily delivering quality service to its customers.  We, at Freelance Distributors, continue to innovate our services to match the increasing expectations of our customers at all levels.
The year 2014 was marked by an important landmark for Freelance Distributors and Mr Takoordyal became the proud owner of Subana.  As he is loyal and emotionally attached to SUBANA, the sense of belongingness kept the brand alive.
